Currently our facility requires providers to be certified in BLS/ACLS/PALS by taking a course sponsored by the America Heart Association. The learning and development software we use offers classes that are sponsored by the American Red Cross. Has anyone noticed any pros and/or cons with the course offered by each agency?

We also require AHA certified life supports.

Our policy says we require AHA classes, but Service Chiefs can waive that requirement on an individual basis. On-line certifications often don’t have the hands-on test out component. However, some of our physicians feel the on-line certifications/tests can be just as demanding as doing the test out and would demonstrate competence.
